Candle Safety Instructions!

Our Candles are made to be enjoyed, however the use of candles requires caution and awareness of the associated risks, so please ensure you always follow these safety precautions. Please remember, negligent and careless use of the candles can be highly dangerous.

  • Always keep a burning candle within sight. Extinguish all candles when leaving a room or before going to sleep. Be sure the wick ember is no longer glowing.
  • To prevent fire, serious injury or accidents, always burn your candle within sight and never leave it unattended.
  • Never burn a candle on or near anything that can catch fire. Keep burning candles away from furniture, drapes, curtains, bedding, carpets, rugs, books, paper, clothes, garments, flammable decorations, etc. - in general anything that can catch fire!
  • Trim the wick of the candle after each use. This is critical to avoid the wick being too long and the flame getting being.
  • Keep burning candles out of the reach of children and pets.
  • Don’t burn a candle all the way down. Extinguish the flame if it comes too close to the holder or container. For a margin of safety, discontinue burning a candle when only 3cm (1inch) of wax remains.
  • Be sure the candle is placed on a stable, heat-resistant surface. This can help prevent heat damage to underlying surfaces and prevent say coconut shells from breaking.
  • Place your candle and its base together on a non-flammable plate (such as a slate coaster or ceramic saucer, plate) before lighting. DO NOT place your candle directly onto or near flammable or heat sensitive surfaces such as glass or wooden furniture as the candles like the coconut shells can get hot and may cause damage.
  • Once the metal stopper has exposed itself through the wax, this indicates your candle has reached its safe end. Please DO NOT try to burn the wick past this point.
  • Keep burning candles away from drafts, vents, ceiling fans and air currents. This will help prevent rapid, uneven burning, and avoid flame flare-ups and sooting. Drafts can also blow nearby lightweight items into the flame where they could catch fire.
  • Always burn candles in a well-ventilated room. Don’t burn too many candles in a small room or in a “tight” home where air exchange is limited.
  • Never touch or move a burning candle or container candle when the wax is liquid.
  • Be very careful if using candles during a power outage. Flashlights and other battery-powered lights are safer sources of light during a power failure.
  • Extinguish a candle if it repeatedly smokes, flickers, or the flame becomes too high. The candle isn’t burning properly. Cool, trim the wick, then check for drafts before relighting.
  • Never use a candle as a night light. Always extinguish the candle flame before going to bed.
